The 106th Nebraska Legislature convened on Wednesday, January 9th for a ninety-day legislative session. During the first day newly and re-elected Senators were sworn into office and the Legislature elected leadership positions including Speaker Jim Scheer of Norfolk and Senator Matt Williams of Gothenburg as Chairman of the Banking, Commerce and Insurance Committee. On day two all Constitutional Officers were sworn in including Governor Pete Ricketts who was re-elected for another four-year term.
Bill introduction began on Day 2 and runs for the first ten days of the session. Committees will begin holding public hearing on bill introduced as early as January 21st. The Nebraska Credit Union League will host its annual state government affairs conference, Jam the Unicam, on Monday, February 4th in Lincoln. The League lobby team is following bill introduction very closely and will provide periodic updates.
