The Nebraska Credit Union League is a “Panel of Experts Sponsor” of the Smart Women Smart Money Conference being held in LaVista on November 1st. The conference is new to Nebraska but was started in 1999 by Idaho State Treasurer Ron Crane. The focus of the conference is to empower women of all backgrounds, ages, and financial acumen to better their financial lives. The State Officers Foundation now operates the conference and is holding it in five states, including Nebraska, in 2019. Nebraska’s State Treasurer John Murante is the host of the conference in Nebraska.
The conference will be free to attendees and space will be limited. Top sponsors of the event include KETV (Channel 7) of Omaha, Wells Fargo, and First National Bank. Cobalt Credit Union joins the League as a Panel of Experts Sponsor and Centris FCU is a Gold Sponsor. “The League is pleased to be supporting such a great event that focuses on improving financial literacy in our community” said Scott Sullivan, President/CEO of the League. The League is providing a speaker for the breakout session titled “Defeating debt: Freedom to live within your means”. Cynthia Campbell, Vice President of BALANCE, will be the featured speaker for the League’s breakout session. BALANCE is a national non-profit that delivers financial education and counseling to consumers.
The League will also have a conference booth to promote the “Open Your Eyes” to Credit Unions campaign. “This will be a great opportunity for us to open the eyes of attendees to credit unions through our sponsorship, breakout session speaker, and our booth. For those who don’t know credit unions, we will be there to open their eyes and promote the value of credit union membership in their financial lives” said Sullivan.
