A political ad utilized in an effort by CUNA, the League, and eight Omaha area credit unions received a national award called a “Pollie” given by the American Association of Political Consultants. The Pollie Awards are described as the Oscars for political ads nationwide. The ad featured a couple, Bob and Sue, who received a Paycheck Protection Program loan/grant from Centris FCU in Omaha that allowed them to keep their small business running during the COVID 19 pandemic shutdown. The Bob and Sue ad won the Gold Pollie for Best Digital Ad in a House Race.
The ad was employed to support Congressman Don Bacon in his re-election to the House of Representatives in Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District. The coordinated effort between CUNA, the League, and the eight participating credit unions directly communicated with over 71,000 credit union members through six separate direct mail, ads on social media platforms, and online ads. This was the first time such an effort was undertaken by Nebraska credit unions. Congressman Bacon won his re-election by 15,000 votes.
