The League takes great pride in presenting its Distinguished Service Awards that salute our industry’s most accomplished volunteers and professionals.

This year’s winners have dedicated their lives to serving the credit union community and deserved to be commended for the part they have played in putting their members, and the movement, first.

Chuck Karpf Receives 2022 Volunteer Distinguished Service Award

The Nebraska Credit Union League honored Chuck Karpf, longtime credit union advocate and volunteer as the 2022 Volunteer of the year during its Annual Awards banquet on June 8th.

A self-proclaimed ‘entrepreneur before it was fashionable to be one’ Chuck has dedicated his life to serving others. According to Chuck’s nomination letter, “Chuck is a true credit union pioneer. He is an innovator and visionary leader who believes deeply in the credit union philosophy of “People Helping people” and he has been instrumental in the founding of three Nebraska credit unions: McPherson Community Federal Credit Union, Pioneer Federal Credit Union, and Nebraska Rural Community Federal Credit Union.”

“Volunteerism serves as the foundation of the credit union movement. As not for profits, credit unions would not be as successful without the dedication and commitment of volunteers,” said Scott Sullivan, President/CEO of NCUL. “The Volunteer Distinguished Service Award was created to recognize those outstanding credit union volunteers who offer unselfish and devoted service to their respective credit unions.”

Nebraska Credit Union League presents the L.A. “Tex” Gunzelman Professional Distinguished Service Award to Amy Brodersen, President & CEO of Family Focus FCU.

The Tex Gunzleman award is the highest individual professional honor that can be bestowed upon a credit union leader in the state of Nebraska. By its very nature, the credit union movement is made up of leaders willing to give a little extra and do a little more. There are those who do, like Tex did, and go a step above and beyond the ordinary. To them, the Nebraska Credit Union League presents this prestigious award.

The following was taken from Amy’s nomination letter, “Amy has served the members of Family Focus FCU for nearly 32 years. She started her credit union career in 1990 as a clerk and moved her way on up and has served as the Chief Executive Officer for the last 16 years. Member well-being is and always has been Amy’s number one priority. Amy does not take for granted the special bond that she holds with her credit union members. I believe it is safe to say that they feel this same bond with her.”

Amy is a past chair and current member of the Nebraska Credit Union League Board of Directors. She also currently serves as Chair of CUNA’s Small Credit Union Committee. Amy is co-founder of the Credit Union Women’s Leadership Association and Global Women’s Leadership Network of Nebraska.

“It was a pleasure to present Amy with the League’s Distinguished Service Award. I have had the privilege of working with Amy for several years in several capacities and have witnessed firsthand the passion she has for her credit union members.” said Scott Sullivan, President/CEO of NCUL. “Amy is also fierce advocate for the role smaller credit unions play in the financial services marketplace. She is always looking for unique and new ways to promote the value smaller credit unions bring to the movement and fights diligently for their survival.”
